The U.S. Department of Education has announced the availability of more than $368 million in new grant opportunities through the Education Innovation and Research (EIR) program and the Teacher and School Leader (TSL) Incentive program that advance investments in teacher recruitment and retention. Read full announcement. These investments particularly prioritize promoting educator diversity and career advancement and leadership opportunities for effective educators tied to increased compensation. To support applicants in applying for these grant opportunities, the U.S. DoE offers a series of resources, including pre-applicant webinars to provide technical assistance available online. Locally, financial assistance is now available to new and pre-service teachers in North Carolina facing the cost of taking state-required license exams. Under a new initiative, TeachNC, a teacher recruitment resource within NCDPI, is providing reimbursements for licensing exam costs or study materials for licensing exams, which can average at or above $450.
