Award supports Defense Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (DSEC) Consortium

RTI's $190M defense contract aims to boost STEM

RTI International and the U.S. Department of Defense have signed a cooperative agreement to continue overseeing the Defense Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education Consortium, or DSEC. The potential 10-year, $190 million deal is intended to boost STEM education among K-16 students and educators across the country through enhanced STEM workforce engagement, program evaluations, and public outreach. Under the agreement, RTI will work with its 28 partner organizations on behalf of the DOD STEM and manage operations, handle communications, and engage with alumni. Read full story

Nags Head location is an ideal testing facility, experts say

Jennette's Pier on the Outer Banks is a Wave Energy Test Center

For those who might have attended or watched the live stream, you might have noticed a big boat just off Jennette's Pier. A team of divers and crew from the Coastal Studies Institute (CSI) were working to remove a 4,000-pound chain pile that served as a mooring for renewable ocean energy devices. The shallow water site, known as the Jennette's Pier Wave Energy Center, is the result of a partnership between the pier and CSI, which is managed by the North Carolina Renewable Ocean Energy Program. Applications for 2024 BWF's CAST Awards close this month

cast2024-1.jpgThe Burroughs Wellcome Fund’s Career Award for STEM Teachers (CAST) recognizes outstanding STEM teachers in North Carolina public primary and secondary schools. The award provides $175,000 over five years and is available to teachers who have an outstanding performance record in educating children and who demonstrate a solid knowledge of STEM content.
