Deadlines approach for 2025 SMT Awards and NCISC
Please join us is
recognizing individuals and organizations whose extraordinary
contributions to STEM education in North Carolina are helping to advance
the mission of the SMT Center by submitting a nomination for the 2025 SMT Awards. Recipients will be honored in the spring at the Celebration of Science, Mathematics, and Technology. In addition, applications also are open for next year's North Carolina International Science Challenge (NCISC), which is a yearly competition connecting North Carolina high school students with their peers from all over the world in order to share scientific discoveries on an international stage.

Friday Institute supports next phase of North Carolina's Digital Equity Plan ↴
New $2.5M project aims to bridge North Carolina's digital divide
A new two-year, $2.5 million project funded by the N.C. Department of Information Technology (NCDIT), in collaboration with North Carolina Central University, will enable the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation’s Program Evaluation and Educational Research (PEER) Group and Digital Learning team to lead the effort in managing and supporting initial planning and implementation of the North Carolina Digital Equity Plan. Durham 8th grader wins tech category at Thermo Fisher JIC
Yash Mehta, NCSEF Region 3A winner and eighth grader at Durham Academy, received 1st Place in Technology recently at the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge (Thermo Fisher JIC), a premier middle school STEM competition.
