Annual report released this week shows three-year high in most standardized tests ↴
Test scores, graduation rates on the rise for NC students
North Carolina students achieved a three-year high in most standardized tests at the end of the 2024-25 academic year, according to annually released test data presented to the State Board of Education this week. Students scored higher in 12 of 15 math and reading assessments, with only third-grade reading, English II, and NC Math I trailing the 2023-24 results. The average composite score for 11th graders taking the ACT rebounded to 18.2 in 2024-25 from a slight dip of 18.1 the previous year. Read full story and view results.

Morehead Planetarium and Science Center's first Teen Science Cafe for the school year is Sept. 19 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Chapel Hill. Open to teens ages 13-18, these monthly cafes include exciting activities, expert speakers, and even free pizza.

Duke Energy Science Night enters 15th year
The Duke Energy Science Night program for elementary schools is now in its 15th year! This program, produced by Morehead Planetarium and Science Center, includes a STEM kit and support throughout the school year to eventually create a science night for your school community during the NC Science Festival in April 2026. The Duke Energy Foundation sponsorship funds several program kits to award at no charge to schools across the state. Recipients are selected via an application process, which is open now through Sept. 23. → Read more
