North Carolina Public Schools see historic gains in 2025-26
North Carolina public school students marked another year of noteworthy academic progress in 2025-26, achieving a record-high graduation rate and improving performance on most standardized tests, according to data presented this month to the State Board of Education. Additionally, end-of-grade (EOG) and end-of-course (EOC) assessments showed a composite proficiency score of 59.2 percent, marking the highest level in three years. The data also revealed notable gains in science proficiency, with an 11-percentage-point increase in biology scores in just one year. Furthermore, School Performance Grades continued to trend upward, resulting in 162 fewer schools being designated as low-performing compared to the previous year.
