Five BWF-supported leaders join national effort to make science more accessible

Five emerging leaders supported by the Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF) are joining the 2026–2028 Civic Science Fellows cohort, a national effort to make science more accessible, inclusive, and responsive to the communities it serves. As part of the program’s fourth and largest cohort of 44 fellows, these leaders will work across scientific institutions, universities, and community initiatives to connect scientific discovery with public participation. Their individual projects tackle critical challenges ranging from building public trust and advancing rural health equity to strengthening media engagement and informing public policy. This collaborative work directly advances BWF’s longstanding commitment to strengthening science communication and helping scientists engage more effectively with the public.
